MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
It has been a very busy year for us. Lots of changes. Lots of new adventures. Hoping you all have had a wonderful year as well and wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
Another new project has started. We are now selling our beef. It is available by the 1/4 or 1/2 side as well as 50 and 100 pound freezer lots or hamburger patties. The cattle are grass fed. No corn. No GMOs. They have been fed barley and flax seed, and hay. For the summer they were pastured in the field. If you are interested in some of our beef or if you have any questions about our beef please call us at 613-965-6381. We already have some of the cattle for next year.
There are also going to be sausages available by the package.
On Sunday December 18th we are having coffee and goodies at the shack from noon until 4. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. The store will be open for your last minute Christmas shopping. If you require something from the store please call 613-965-6381 and we can meet you there or deliver it to your home.
We want to thank Bunny Empey for sending us the following recipe:
2 eggs beaten
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup soft butter
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp flour
Beat everything together and fill tart shells. Bake at 425 for 10 minutes. Don’t let filling bubble.
If I am in a hurry I use store bought frozen tart shells.
If you have a favorite recipe you would like to share please send it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We would like to thank the following stores in the area for carrying our product: Jim and Dave’s Antiques Highway 33 Carrying Place, Lakeshore Farms in Wellington and Pierson’s Foodland in Wellington.
In about six weeks we will be getting ready to tap the trees. Lots to do. The pipeline needs to be flushed. Tanks need to be cleaned. Taps need to be sanitized and installed. Looking forward to another busy season. If there are any groups, schools or organizations that would like to see how this all happens lets us know. We are happy to host groups to see how the process works.
Check out our website www.waltssugarshack.ca for upcoming events, news and photos. Last Saturday we had John do a video telling us about Walt land and various people this will be posted on our website as soon as it it editted.
Maple in the County is March 25th and 26th from 8am to 5pm. This is a family event therefore, there is no alcohol. There will be live music both days from 9am to 5pm, check out our website for the schedule. Pancakes and sausages will be served all day. Homemade baked beans with homemade bread are also being served. For goodies there are going to be Walt drops, candy floss, beaver tails and taffy in the snow. There will be horse drawn wagon rides from the road. If you are a special needs person of any kind we can arrange for you to be driven up to the shack, your vehicle parked and help getting you your food. Please let Mike know down at the road and he can arrange this for you. Our dining tent is heated. There is lots of coffee, tea and hot chocolate available in the tent. Other than service dogs no dogs are allowed due to insurance stipulations.
We have decided what our summer fundraiser will be this year. On August 5 2017 we have chosen to fundraise for the MFRC (Military Family Resource Centre) and Veterans. This will be from noon until it ends. The first meeting has already happened between us and the MFRC. We are looking forward to this event. Please let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions for this event or if there are any entertianers that would like to participate.
