February was a busy month and March is even busier for us. Already working on getting everything ready for Maple in the County on March 19th and 20th. We hope to see everyone there.
February 19th we hosted First Tap. The Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association has gave us this honor. We made the following papers County Weekly News, Picton Gazette, The Intelligencer and Quinte West News. Hope I didn’t miss any of them.
February 26th was Media Day for Maple in the County. This was hosted at Three Dog Winery.
February 28th and 29th we bottled the first of the syrup for this season and made more butter. The store is well stocked and we look forward to seeing everyone. If you can’t make it out give us a call and we will be happy to send it to you. We can be reached at 613-965-6381.
March 19th and 20th is Maple in the County. There will be a pancake breakfast all day. Adults $10 and children under 12 $5. Please ask about our servicemans discount when purchasing an adult meal. The dining tent has been doubled in size and is heated. The petting zoo, face painting and taffy in the snow are all in heated tents as well. Saturday’s entertainment is Becky Elliott, Dean Austin and Robin Edgar. Sunday is John Beenan from 9:30 to 11:30 and The Reasons from noon to 4. Our master of ceremonies is Leo Phillips. There will be horse and wagon rides starting at 9am on both days. Also, in our store if you are a serviceman ask about our discount.
We are planning on being at the shack every Saturday from now until Maple in the County. This coming weekend we are planning on making maple butter and restocking the shelves with our second run this year.
We are planning an event August 6th. Please keep this date available. It will be a fundraiser for the Picton Hospital Foundation. We will keep you posted with the itinerary as it is confirmed. We are looking forward to this event and hope to see everyone there.
Jane made this recipe for First Tap and it received rave reviews.
1 lg tub of Philadelphia cream cheese softened
1/4 cup sour cream
½ cup parmesean cheese
1 cup bacon bits
½ cup Walts maple syrup
Combine all the above ingredients in an oven proof bowl. Mix well. Heat in a 350 degree oven for approx. 20 mins. Serve with toasted naan bread, tortilla scoops etc.
